Speaker Bios

Kristy Dahl, Ph.D.
Dr. Kristy Dahl is the coordinator for the Rutgers Climate and Environmental Change Initiative. She received her PhD in climatology from the MIT/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Joint Program in 2005, and then spent a year as a postdoctoral researcher in NOAA's global change program. Prior to coming to Rutgers, she was invited to participate in Al Gore's Climate Project, an international effort to raise awareness about global warming. Kristy currently helps to develop and manage multidisciplinary climate research projects at Rutgers, and is working to improve climate education at the university and throughout the state of New Jersey.

Debbie Mans
Debbie Mans is the environmental and energy policy advisor to Governor Jon S. Corzine. She is also the Smart Growth Ombudsman and represents the Governor's Office on the State Planning Commission. Prior to joining the Governor's Office Debbie was the Policy Director for NY/NJ Baykeeper, a bi-state environmental advocacy organization. She also was a program coordinator for the Stony Brook Millstone Watershed Association, located in Pennington, NJ, directing activities for The Watershed Institute and NJ Council of Watershed Associations. She graduated from University of Michigan and Vermont Law School.

Norbert P. Psuty, Ph.D.
Dr. Norbert P. Psuty is Professor Emeritus in the Departments of Geography, Geological Sciences, and Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. He is currently the Director of Sandy Hook Cooperative Research Programs of the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences, and his office is located at Sandy Hook. He is a coastal geomorphologist whose research encompasses the dynamics of the coastal zone, incorporating process-response studies of beaches, coastal dune processes and morphology, sediment budget studies, barrier island dynamics, estuarine sedimentation, and sea-level rise. His research has been conducted primarily in various portions of coastal New Jersey and it has both a basic science component as well as an applied side. He has been and continues to be consultant to the National Park Service on shoreline dynamics and change in the coastal parks. He has recently received the National Park Service Director's Award for 2006 for Natural Resource Research in the National Parks.

Patrick Hossay, Ph.D.
Patrick Hossay is an Associate Professor of Political Science and Environmental Studies at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. He holds a PhD from the New School for Social Research and teaches courses in Sustainable Development and Environmental Policy. Professor Hossay consults and works with numerous municipalities and environmental initiatives in New Jersey, and is the principle consultant for New Jersey Cool Cities.

Patricia Swannack
Patricia Swannack began her employment with the University in 1975 in Human Resources, and was promoted to Director in 1987 and to Executive Director in 1994. Mrs. Swannack was appointed Vice President for Administrative Services in October of 1994 and is responsible for overseeing the University Police Department, Facilities Management, Campus Planning and Construction, Human Resources, Network Operations and Telecommunications. Since 1994, under Mrs. Swannack's leadership, the University has performed over $60 million in construction and renovation projects, with an anticipated additional $70 million to be spent over the next 3 years. Projects include the installation of the largest solar energy system east of the Mississippi River and oversight of the University's largest project, a 153,000 gross square feet- the Multi­purpose Activity Center opening in 2009. She is a 2002 graduate of Monmouth University having earned a degree in Management; has served as Vice Chair of the University's Negotiating Team and was the recipient of the Stafford Presidential Award of Excellence in 2004 as well as the Alumni Service Award in 2005 for her service to Monmouth University. She currently serves as a member of the Community Advisory Board of Jersey Shore University Hospital and is a member of Women Against MS. In addition, she has also served as a Board Member for the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Faith Teitelbaum
Faith Teitelbaum is a life member of the Sierra Club and has been active since 1985. She has served in Club positions at local, state and national levels. She is currently the NJ co-chair for the Cool Cities Campaign.
